Firearm & Gear Storage for Police & Paramedics
Dasco designed a solution for every storage need in the new facility. In total, we installed 500 lockers.
The Barrie Police Department and Paramedics required a wide array of storage solutions for their brand-new building. The building will serve over 500 personnel who require storage for their police and paramedic gear, communication equipment and their personal belongings. Dasco Storage Solutions managed the project from start to finish to ensure they received the best product, installation and customer service.
THE STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
For this project, we had balance two sets of needs. We needed to create an ideal weapon and gear storage solution for the police officers. At the same time, we had to deliver a new style of locker for the paramedics.
The Police Department
The police department required personal storage, weapon storage and gear storage for their team – both officers and civilian staff. These storage requirements were split across many rooms in the building. The largest need was for lockers for their changeroom. The police required a locker that would allow officers to store and hang personal items – and their uniform when off duty.
For weapon storage, they required secure lockers to store their service handguns and rifles. They had a variety of weapons and needed a variety of storage solutions. They also wanted to save space, so they needed a solution that was compact and organized.
Finally, for their gear storage, they required larger open cages to accommodate a variety of service gear.
The Paramedic Service
The paramedic requirements were different. Their team required locker storage for their personal items and uniforms. These lockers were all for the same large changeroom. They differed from the police in that they required an open compartment on the bottom of the locker for their boots and did not require a bench seat.
DASCO'S STORAGE SOLUTION
Dasco had to recommend a few different storage solutions to meet all of the needs. For the police requirements, we were able to use off-the-shelf storage products. For the paramedic locker, Dasco had to engineer a custom locker using a traditional corridor locker as the base for design.
The Police Department
Dasco recommended our Constable Locker for the police’s changeroom storage lockers. Constable lockers come with two compartments for equipment. The upper compartment features a hanger bar, hooks and a universal back panel for customizable storage. This allowed officers to store their personal clothes. The universal back panel is great for storing their service equipment. The top compartment door is secured with a padlock. We included a lock box in the top compartment for valuables such as wallets and phones.
The bottom compartment forms the bench seat for the officers to sit on. Under the seat, the roll-out drawer offers lots of room for boots and other equipment. It’s ventilated and secured with an Abloy lock and key.
For the civilian staff, we supplied traditional corridor style lockers. With a lot less gear, they required a lot less storage space. These lockers offer open space to hang jackets and store items on the upper or bottom shelf.
For their firearm storage needs, we recommend our 4-Compartment Handgun Locker and Bi-Fold Weapon Rack. The 4-Compartment Hadngun Locker is large enough to accommodate all kinds of handguns. However, it doesn’t take up a lot of room. We were able to wall-mount the lockers to save floor space and make the lockers easy to access with a key.
For their long guns, we supplied Dasco’s most popular product – the Bi-Fold Weapon Rack. The 84” high rack provided lots of organized and secure storage for all of the service’s rifles and shotguns.
For the police’s gear storage needs, we supplied our TA-50 Gear Storage Lockers. The strong, perforated steel locker is the ideal storage solution for all gear storage needs. It is incredibly secure and features a large open space. This space can be customized with additional coat hooks, shelves and more.
The Paramedic Service
The paramedic storage requirements demanded a unique locker – one that Dasco needed to create. The Dasco engineering team was up to the challenge and developed a solution by adapting a traditional corridor locker.
The open compartment at the bottom required us to build an additional shelf 16 inches from the floor of the locker. Dasco also had to design a shorter door and hinge to form a secure compartment with the new shelf. This solution offered the quick and easy access to footwear that the paramedics desired.
The paramedics were very please with the result. This is the latest example of how Dasco Storage Solutions can solve all of your storage needs – no matter how large or how unique they are.
